同性恋结婚怎么样？

你认为同性恋结婚怎么样？我有很多的同性恋朋友，大部分住在加利福尼亚。在2008年，加利福尼亚州最高法院批准了同性恋结婚的合法性。在加利福尼亚很多人思想开放，但是也有很多人接受不了。
在美国有很多不同的立法方式。其中一个是公民表决。那些接受不了的人提出了一个禁止同性恋结婚的法案。这个法案来自于那些宗教团体，尤其是摩门教派的诉求。他们认为婚姻是宗教性的，而在他们的宗教里，只有男人和女人可以结婚。
在美国，有政教分离的原则，这个原则规定教堂无权干涉政治事务。但他们明修栈道，暗渡陈仓，名义上他们说他们没有干涉，但事实上他们暗示了信徒要奉献。然后，他们用信徒的钱在电视上做广告，欺骗那些要投票的人，使他们知难而退。因此，禁止同性恋结婚的法案被以很小的票数差通过了。在这个法案通过以前，很多同性恋人己经在加州结婚了。现在这种朝令夕改的做法让事情变的很滑稽，即使同性恋婚姻再度被禁止，加州事实上仍有合法的同性恋婚姻存在。在美国，这是人民第一次否决关于人权的法案，我以此为耻。

What do you think of gay marriage? I have quite a few gay friends, most of whom live in California. In 2008, the California Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage was to be treated the same as heterosexual marriage. California has a lot of progressive, open-minded people, but there are a still a lot of people who couldn’t accept this ruling.
In America, there are several ways to make laws, and on the state level, one of which is the public referendum/proposition, where the proposed law is decided by popular vote. Originating from those people who couldn’t accept that gay marriage was made legal, specifically the religious right, a public referendum was created to nullify the supreme court’s decision. In their minds, marriage is a religious institution, and in their religion, it is only between a man and a woman. This was strongly supported by the Mormon church.
In America, we have a principle of the separation of church and state. This principle is designed to protect political affairs from the meddling of any one religious authority. But to get around this rule, the churches urged their followers to support this bill in any ways possible, donating time and money to help get it passed. This provided the proposition with a lot of funding used to make deceptive advertisements to mislead the public about the implications of the supreme court’s decision. Due to their influence, the bill passed with a slim margin, once again denying gay people the right to marry each other. During the few months while gay marriage was legal, many gay couples got married and these marriages must be recognized by law, so in a sense, gay marriage still legally exists in California. This was the first time in American History that a state publicly voted to take away existing rights from people, and in my opinion, is very disappointing and embarrassing.
UPDATE: apparently the courts just decided that the Mormon Church was indeed guilty of illegally tampering with the Californian election and fined them a princely sum of a little over $5,000, a trifle in face of the $32 million that was poured into buying this election. I am even more disgusted with California than I was before.
Of course, from these bigots you’ll hear the counter-argument that gays can have domestic partnerships, which are the equivalent of marriage… hmm, separate-but-equal, where have I heard that phrase before?
Naturally, those ‘domestic partnership’ benefits don’t extend to things like spouse visas. Unlike a marriage, a domestic partnership or civil union doesn’t allow for the untaxed transfer of assets between both parties.
A married couple can swap cars and houses without having to cut a check to the IRS, but a gay couple can’t.
Disappointing is not the right word. It’s *disgusting*.
And it’s amazingly hypocritical of the Mormon church, who for many years were stigmatized and persecuted for their particular flavor of Christianity… I guess now that they’ve got money, they figure that it’s time to switch from ‘be like Jesus’ to ‘be like the guy with the hammer and nails’.
It’s sad that we live in a world where so many people look to other peoples’ lives and say “No! Bad! Wrong!”

I also don’t think it makes any sense, given the Mormon’s history of persecution, but I think none of that occurs to them when they decide what to do with their billions of dollars. It’s more about upholding their own beliefs than reinterpreting them in a way that’s considerate of all people affected. What really burns me is that I’ve never been given a satisfactory answer as to how legalizing gay marriage has any effect on straight marriage.
Thank goodness for the overturning of the ban on gay marriage in California. The federal gov’t shouldn’t have ever gotten in the way of state of California’s issues in the first place.
